Congratulations to charming Vitoria in the Basque Country on being elected Spain’s Gastronomy Capital for 2014! This terrific win comes just a year after being Europe’s Green Capital so this city certainly knows well how to go about making a success of these prestigious awards.
Vitoria has a rich and varied gastronomy heavily influenced by traditional Basque cuisine now considered, without doubt, to be one of the finest cuisines in the world. Vitoria is located in the province of Alava which itself encompasses Rioja Alavesa, one of the three zones that make up the famous Rioja wine region. So visitors to Vitoria next year or indeed at any time are in a for a Gastronomic treat like no other. As Totally Spain was founded in Vitoria and Belen Encinas, one of the founders of Totally Spain, was born there we couldn’t be more pleased.
