If you’ve seen ‘Altamira’ the movie starring Antonio Banderas, you are probably curious to see the stunning Cantabrian cave art discovered in 1879. At Totally Spain (we’re a Spain-based travel agent and specialist in custom travel to Spain since 2000), we’re lucky to be based near the real thing which we highly recommend that you visit for yourself. Cantabria, along with the Dordogne in France, is one of the best places in the world to experience world class cave art and so much more.
Eating out is a major part of any holiday and here in Spain we have amazing restaurants to suit every budget. Today we’re going to focus on the set-price meal in Spain known as the ‘menu-del-dia’ which is usually served at lunchtime from Monday to Friday. As you know, Totally Spain is a Spain-based travel agent and specialist in custom travel to Spain since 2000, so we’ve had our fair share of delicious meals here. Believe us when we say that the ‘menu-del-dia’ offers incredible value for money and you’d be hard pushed to find anywhere in Europe that offers the same quality and choice at the price with wine included.
We’ve has been planning custom trips around Northern Spain ever since Totally Spain started out back in the year 2000. We initially set up our business in Vitoria in the Basque Country – which was then an unknown part of Spain. Today we are still based in Northern Spain in Cantabria. Although we plan trips for all over Spain and Portugal, we love taking the time to write about this superb region so here you have it – our shiny new Insider Guide on What to See and Do in Northern Spain.
It’s been a while since we wrote about the Camino de Santiago, so we thought we’d bring you some of the alternative Camino routes in Spain which can be walked, cycled, ridden and driven. Yes, driven!
We’re lucky to be based in Cantabria which is home to some amazing museums. When we leave the Totally Spain office (we’re a Spain-based travel agent and specialist in custom travel to Spain since 2000), there’s nothing we enjoy more than visiting these museums in Cantabria’s capital, Santander, and throughout the rest of the region too.
We’ve been hooked on a cult book about immortality by the Spanish writer Eva Garcia Saenz. It’s a great read that unfolds in a museum in Santander in Northern Spain and takes us back to our cave dwelling past in Cantabria and other moments in history before returning to contemporary Spain. The book is now available in English and we recommend it for an afternoon of escapism. But living and working here in Cantabria, we know you don’t have to be immortal to experience the past. We have excellent museums, eye-popping cave art, postcard-perfect medieval towns, achingly cool urban retro architecture and chocolate-box hamlets on our doorstep, to step back in time, whenever we fancy…
