All eyes were on Santiago last night to see the names of the restaurants appearing in the latest edition of the French gastronomy bible. No change at the top – Spain is still home to 8 establishments with 3 stars (Akelarre, Arzak, Azurmendi, El Celler de Can Roca, DiverXO, Martín Berasategui, Quique Dacosta and Sant Pau). But we now have 23 kitchens with 2-stars and 157 kitchens with 1 star.
Kids are adored in Spain and you’ll find that they are great ice-breakers when it comes to mixing with the locals. But that doesn’t mean there won’t be a few hiccups along the way when travelling with junior. We’ve put together this food guide for families in Spain so you know what’s what when it comes to feeding your children on holiday.
When we started our travel business in 2000, we were planning lots of “once-in-a-lifetime” trips to Spain and our job was to make sure that all the “must-sees” were included on each itinerary. So much has changed since then. Because air travel has become much more affordable and it’s so easy to fly into new regional destinations, many of our clients are actively looking to avoid the “must-see” sights in exchange for something much more personal, new and fresh. They are looking for more boutique destinations in Spain.
We are often struck by how different Spain can seem for first time visitors so we’ve decided to put together a guide to the Weird, Quirky & Unusual Food Customs in Spain for those of you novices coming to Spain. In case you don’t know us, we should emphasise that we are a Spain-based travel specialist since 2000. We adore Spain and love designing customised trips to Spain. So please read this in the light-hearted manner in which it has been written. With that disclaimer, we’ll begin our list of the weird and wonderful things in Spain, all of which are food-related.
We are frequently contacted by our clients researching the best shopping in Spain. After two decades of answering questions and providing advice (we’ve been designing travel itineraries here since 2000) we thought it was high time we provided our very own Totally Spain Guide to the Best Shopping in Spain.
