We’ve been designing custom trips around Northern Spain ever since Totally Spain started out back in the year 2000. You might not know but we initially set up our business in Vitoria in the Basque Country, which was then an unknown part of Spain. Today, we are still based in Northern Spain in Cantabria, and although we do plan trips for all over Spain and Portugal, we love planning trips around this superb region. To make it even easier for you to see what’s so great, here’s our insider guide on What to See & Do in Northern Spain.
Here at Totally Spain, we’ve been tracking San Sebastian’s rise to the culinary hall of fame since we started our business in the Basque Country in the year 2000. It’s been exciting to observe San Sebastian as Europe’s City of Culture – when the cultural calendar finally caught up with the chefs culinary skills and made it into a world class destination for all the senses.

We’re lucky to be based in Cantabria which is home to some amazing museums. We’ve been hooked on a cult book about immortality by the Spanish writer Eva Garcia Saenz. It’s a great read that unfolds in a museum in Santander in Northern Spain and takes us back to our cave dwelling past in Cantabria and other moments in history before returning to contemporary Spain. The book is now available in English and we recommend it for an afternoon of escapism. But living and working here in Cantabria, we know you don’t have to be immortal to experience the past. We have excellent museums, eye-popping cave art, postcard-perfect medieval towns, achingly cool urban retro architecture and chocolate-box hamlets on our doorstep, to step back in time, whenever we fancy…
