Ever wanted to see Gaudi’s crazy cathedral that has been 130 years+ in the making? Or maybe Gehry’s giant titanium de-construction in the shape of an old ship is more your style. And what about Calatrava’s neo-futurist designs that defy words? Whether you’re after Modernist, modern or Moorish, Spain is a joy to visit for any fan or practitioner of architecture. We’ve been planning architectural tours of Spain since we set up Totally Spain back in 2000 and want to share our tips with you for the perfect architecture tour of Spain.
Totally Spain has been planning custom trips around Northern Spain since we started out in the year 2000. We set up our business from Vitoria in the Basque Country and were soon bowled over by the interest in this beautiful yet quite unknown part of Spain. Today we are still based in Northern Spain – living and working in Cantabria. Because we plan trips for all of Spain and Portugal we often don’t get to write enough about this superb region – it’s been ages since we posted What to See in Northern Spain. So here is our shiny new Insider Guide on What to See and Do in Northern Spain.
With an over-whelming number of UNESCO-listed monuments and world-class museums in Spain to choose from, one of our primary tasks when engaged by a client is to shortlist what they see and do. How does that work and where do we recommend?
We’re no movie buffs but we know that great films, like all creative arts, can inspire. And so we bring you some of Spain’s stunning backdrops that you might have enjoyed on the silver screen. Some are obviously set in Spain but there are a few surprises in there you might not have expected! Grab the popcorn or some pipas (sunflower seeds) if you are based in Spain like us (we’ve been designing bespoke trips to Spain since 2000). And lights, camera, action!
Ever noticed how people from Spain usually talk about their own region rather than the country as a whole? It’s because Spain is a very diverse country and the geography, landscape, climate and even the language changes from region to region. It’s part of what makes a trip here so exciting. Sometimes clients think they have to choose one part of Spain to visit. But they’re wrong! They don’t have to choose between the the gastronomy, winery and pilgrimage trips in the North, the Moorish architecture, sherry tastings and skiing in the South and the Dalí, Gaudí, paella and Calatrava sights of the North East and East. They can have it all!
Planning your Spain vacation but can’t decide what to visit? We have rounded up the best videos of Spain’s top 10 most visited monuments and attractions to tempt you. Because if a picture paints a thousand words, then a great video with a moving soundtrack, does that and so much more. And that might help you decide the types of monuments and museums you want to include in your trip!
