We’ve written recently about Spain’s Jewish heritage and today we’d like to highlight some of the more significant Jewish sights in Portugal where you can step back in time and get a sense of how this vibrant community lived and worked. We start in the capital, Lisbon, and tour nine locations before finishing up in Porto. We know that there are many many more significant sights – we’ve been organising Jewish heritage trips throughout our 15 years in business and together with our experienced local guides have put together many highly personalised packages. Here is just one example of the type of trips we programme in Portugal…
With the help of one of our knowledgeable guides, it really is possible to peel back the layers and the centuries to find Jewish street names, Jewish architecture, the old Juderias or Jewish neighbourhoods, former synagogues and Jewish places of businesses that give a sense of how the Sephardi community lived, worked and worshipped before eviction from Spain in 1492. Here at Totally Spain – the Spain based travel agent and specialists in custom travel to Spain since 2000 – we have organised numerous custom trips for Jewish travelers in Spain and in Portugal and have built up a network of experienced local guides with a deep knowledge of the history of the Jewish community in Spain.
Nothing says holidays more than a car, a suitcase, sunglasses, and the open road. And here in Spain, we have a wonderful road infrastructure including shiny new three-lane highways that get you out of the cities plus plenty of those romantic rural roads that snake around the mountain ridges and coastal cliffs when you want them too. We know these roads because we are a Spain-based travel agent. Totally Spain has been a custom travel specialist in Spain since 2000.
