Do you ever wonder what professional travel planners do during their Summer holidays? Because we spend the Spring and Autumn months road-testing new hotels, venues, activities and experiences, in July and August, we stay local at home here in Cantabria. In Northern Spain, the temperatures are perfect for days on the beach, BBQs at home and lunches out with friends and family. Here is the longlist of 25 experiences in Cantabria we’ve planned for this Summer! If you’re planning an active trip to Cantabria, get in touch and we’ll design your perfect holiday!
Here at Totally Spain, we’ve lived and worked from Cantabria for many years and always take pleasure in showcasing this beautiful Northern coastal region in Spain. We’ve been planning custom itineraries around Spain and Portugal since the year 2000 and more and more of these trips include a few days here in our home region. Have a look at what we consider to be the essential Cantabria and let us know which locations are of most interest to you when you come to visit.
Inspired by a book by Eva Garcia Saenz that unfolds in a museum in Santander and takes us back to our cave dwelling past, here’s where you’ll find eye-popping cave art, postcard-perfect medieval towns, achingly cool urban retro architecture and chocolate-box hamlets on our doorstep here in Cantabria. So you can step back in time, whenever you feel like it…
Spain is great for a family holiday but why a surfing package in Northern Spain you say? Not only is it historically a great place to surf – but we believe that the milder climate in Northern Spain is a bonus for families who want to be active in the middle of the day during the hot summer months. We also think you’ll enjoy the cultural amenities and the foodie vibe. Remember the tapas in the North are unbeatable!
One of the powerful draws to visiting the Northern coast of Spain are the Cantabria cave paintings. Being based here in Cantabria, they are literally on our doorstep and we love visiting them and include them in our Northern Spain itineraries. Everybody who visits is moved by the experience. And yes – almost everybody agrees that the paintings constitute the oldest art in Europe.
