One of the powerful draws to visiting the Northern coast of Spain are the Cantabria cave paintings. Being based here in Cantabria, they are literally on our doorstep and we love visiting them and include them in our Northern Spain itineraries. Everybody who visits is moved by the experience. And yes – almost everybody agrees that the paintings constitute the oldest art in Europe.

Savouring Real Spain in September – Fun, Festivals & Fine Wine
September is a great time to travel to Spain. It’s much quieter than the peak months of July and August when many Spaniards take their annual vacation. The weather in Spain is still warm enough to take advantage of the wonderful evenings but not so hot as to prevent you from sightseeing in the middle of the day. It’s much easier to secure hotel rooms with sea-views, to visit the popular monuments and enjoy long lazy lunches on outdoor terraces. And it’s when some of the best festivals take place! Small Square in Granada Spain named after Joe Strummer of The Clash
Did you know that Joe Strummer, former frontman of The Clash who passed away in 2002, was honoured in the Andalusian city of Granada, Spain in May 2013 with his own small square – the Placeta Joe Strummer? This followed a campaign by locals on Facebook which reached officials at City Hall some of whom turned out to be fans.
