We are often struck by how different Spain can seem for first time visitors so we’ve decided to put together a guide to the Weird, Quirky & Unusual Food Customs in Spain for those of you novices coming to Spain. In case you don’t know us, we should emphasise that we are a Spain-based travel specialist since 2000. We adore Spain and love designing customised trips to Spain. So please read this in the light-hearted manner in which it has been written. With that disclaimer, we’ll begin our list of the weird and wonderful things in Spain, all of which are food-related.
With an over-whelming number of UNESCO-listed monuments and world-class museums in Spain to choose from, visitors always need help when selecting which to visit. Here at Totally Spain, we’ve been putting together custom itineraries since the year 2000 and share our shortlist of the 15 best museums and monuments in Spain…
We are frequently contacted by our clients researching the best shopping in Spain. After two decades of answering questions and providing advice (we’ve been designing travel itineraries here since 2000) we thought it was high time we provided our very own Totally Spain Guide to the Best Shopping in Spain.
Spurred on by the re-opening of the vertigo-inducing Caminito del Rey walking route complete with bridge, we’ve decided here at Totally Spain to pull together our favourite Spanish ‘puentes’ or bridges in Spain. We’ve got a bit of everything in here – Roman bridges, foot bridges, hanging bridges, toll bridges, bridges designed by starchitects and bridges that just have great personality or meaning. Some we’ve crossed this year – others we’re not sure we’ll ever cross (would that be the Caminito??) but they are all spectacular in their own special way.
If there’s one place we recommend our clients visit in every Spanish town, it’s the main square or plaza, often called the Plaza Mayor. Traditionally it’s where bullfights took place and it was often the location for outdoor foodmarkets and theatres too. Today it’s all about the café tables, the buzz, the people and the activities in the square.
